OPPO, I got a question for y’all. There’s a guy up the street from me who is building a RB swapped 240 daily driver/track/drift car. It has no cage, but a racing seat and harness. The harness mounts to the car at an angle that’s closer to vertical than horizontal. I thought this was a huge no-no. Am I wrong? He’s active in the local drift scene and knows to take it off public roads to have fun, but I have no idea what sort of tech inspection is at the events he goes to. If it was autocross season id feel better know it passed our local chapter’s tech.

Second question: if not wrong, I feel I need to say something. Do you guys agree? How? I see him occasionally if he’s working on a car when I’m walking my dog, but that’s it. I’d hate to wait till I see him again and it be too late. Note on the car, or just knock on his door and say “ you’re shits wrong, man”.

Take you dog for a walk when he’s outside, strike up a conversation, and mention that the belt routing looks wrong.

Or you could just print out one of the pics and stick it under a windshield wiper!

I was thinking of doing just that.

Eh, in my book a fixed back seat and harness needs at least a roll bar if not a full cage. More and more groups are cracking down on safety and a harness bar isn’t enough anymore.

A lot of places flat-out aren’t allowing you to run a harness and bar without a cage. Makes sense from a safety aspect, but a lot of people are unaware.

There isn’t even a bar here, just mounted to the body.

This doesn’t even have a bar, just bolts in the body.

Yea, that’s not right and it is downright dangerous because it will compress your spine in an accident.

Sadly some organizing bodies are really lax in tech inspections and a lot of people take short cuts like this.

Harness bars (without a cage) are dangerous and insufficient for a lot of reasons and you shouldn’t run a fixed back seat without a full cage.

Yeah, that was my understanding as well, and all our child seats make it clear that the straps can’t be below the shoulder.

Small plate with a bolt securing it.

That’s going to fail tech immediately.

But it’s got a fresh dent I can only assume came from drifting. All this aside, he is responsible on public roads, doesn’t speed through the neighborhood, etc. So I don’t know what kind of events he’s doing, but it’s going through.
